1.1 What is chemistry? One rock, eleven branches
Chemistry studies the properties, composition and structure of substances, the physical and chemical changes in matter, and the laws behind those changes. It is split into branches so that each can focus on one area.
Try one MCQ
The hazardous effects of shopping bags are studied in:
- (a) Geochemistry
- (b) Inorganic chemistry
- (c) Analytical chemistry
- (d) Environmental chemistry
Show answer
(d) Environmental chemistry studies the effects of chemicals released into air, soil and water, and the causes and solutions of pollution.
How every lesson works
- Read: the problem first, then the one rule that solves it.
- Key terms: four ideas the board asks about, each with a “why”.
- Try it: an interactive you can play with, and a question you answer on screen.
- Model answers: board-style questions solved line by line.
- Common mistakes: the traps that cost marks every year.
- MCQs: five questions, each with the reason behind the answer.
- Quick revision: three points to remember before the exam.
What comes next
- Every chapter of all 7 subjects of your year: Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Maths, Computer Science, English and Urdu.
- Notes, model answers, common mistakes and MCQs for every lesson.
- Every step in English, Urdu and Roman Urdu; switch any time.
- More chapters of the new PECTAA books, added one by one as each is checked against the book.
Every open lesson is free. The rest is coming soon.

One book, all nine Punjab boards
The same Punjab textbook is used by the boards of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal. These notes fit your board too.
Questions students ask
- Are the lessons really free?
- Yes. Every lesson that is open is free for everyone, with all its notes, model answers and MCQs. No sign-up needed to read it.
- What about the other chapters?
- They are listed in the order of the new PECTAA book and say Coming soon. We add them one by one, each checked against the book.
- Does it match my board?
- Yes. All nine Punjab boards use the same Punjab textbook, so the chapters, questions and MCQs here fit Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and every other Punjab board.
- Can I study in Urdu?
- Yes. Every explanation is in English, Urdu and Roman Urdu. Science terms stay in English, as they appear in your exam paper.
