1.1 Physical and non-physical quantities: can you put fear on a ruler?
A physical quantity can be measured with an instrument and written as a number with a unit. A non-physical quantity depends on the observer, so it can only be described or compared.
Try one MCQ
Which one is a non-physical quantity?
- (a) Distance
- (b) Density
- (c) Wisdom
- (d) Temperature
Show answer
(c) Wisdom depends on the observer and no instrument reads it; the other three are measured.
How every lesson works
- Read: the problem first, then the one rule that solves it.
- Key terms: four ideas the board asks about, each with a “why”.
- Try it: an interactive you can play with, and a question you answer on screen.
- Model answers: board-style questions solved line by line.
- Common mistakes: the traps that cost marks every year.
- MCQs: five questions, each with the reason behind the answer.
- Quick revision: three points to remember before the exam.
