Homeostasis: the body's quiet thermostat

The problem

A January night in Lahore can drop to 5 °C. A June afternoon can pass 45 °C. That is a 40-degree swing outside, yet the temperature inside your body barely moves from 37 °C.

Nobody reminds your body to sweat or shiver. Something is quietly watching, comparing and correcting all day. Biology calls it homeostasis.

Homeostasis is the protection of the internal environment from the harms of changes in the external environment. It keeps inside changes within a narrow range; it does not freeze them at one fixed value.
