Functions: one input, exactly one output

Type your roll number into the board's website and you get one result card. Imagine it showed two different cards for the same roll number. Nobody would trust the result again.

That rule, exactly one output for each input, is the whole idea of a function. The whole of calculus, which fills this book, is built on it.
