The problem

Your college keeps 1,200 result sheets in a cupboard. The principal asks one question: which section needs extra classes? Every fact needed is in that cupboard, yet nobody can answer.

The sheets are data. The answer the principal wants is information. What turns one into the other is a set of operations, and a computer program does them in seconds.

Operations fall into three basic activities: data capturing, data manipulation, and managing the output results.
